Amanda Ungaro Describes Harsh Conditions in ICE Detention, Claims Lice Infestation
Amanda Ungaro, a Brazilian model with past social ties to President Trump and Melania Trump, has detailed her challenging experience while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. In an interview with El País, Ungaro described being held in Miami and later transferred to a facility in Louisiana, where she was kept in a hall with over 120 detainees, lacked sunlight for days, and emerged infested with lice. Her account comes amid ongoing legal and political debates over the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies, detention standards, and due process for noncitizens. Ungaro's previous connections to the Trumps and Italian modeling agent Paolo Zampolli, who has denied involvement in her detention, have brought heightened attention to her case.
