Dina Contella Appointed as International Space Station Deputy Program Manager at NASA

Since 2024, Dina Contella has taken on the role of International Space Station (ISS) deputy program manager at NASA. Her responsibilities involve the daily management and overall operations of the ISS, a habitable satellite and microgravity laboratory in low Earth orbit. The ISS is recognized as the first space station built and crewed through international collaboration and is the largest human spacecraft ever constructed. Contella, who is of Mexican descent, began her career at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston through a cooperative education program while studying at Texas A&M University. She started her post-graduate career in 1993 as an astronaut instructor for space shuttle orbiter crews, specializing in computer and navigation systems. In 1995, she became an extravehicular activity (EVA) instructor and flight controller, planning spacewalks and training astronauts. NASA Selects Three Lunar Payloads for Moon Base Program to Study Hazards, Lava Tubes, and Ice

NASA has announced the selection of three science payload suites under its Payloads and Research Investigations on the Surface of the Moon (PRISM) program. These payloads are designed to study surface hazards, potential underground lava tubes, and buried ice on the Moon, in preparation for a planned crewed outpost. The instruments will be delivered to the lunar surface via commercial landers as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, which supports the Artemis Moon Base Program. Nicky Fox, associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, stated that NASA Science is developing an 'interplanetary survival guide' to provide future astronaut crews with essential information, resources, and safety precautions for living on the Moon.
