Congresswoman Judy Chu Joins Groundbreaking for Eaton Fire Victims' Home Rebuild in Altadena
Congresswoman Judy Chu participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the rebuilding of Emmanuel and Emma Alvarado's home in Altadena, which was destroyed in the Eaton fire. The event, held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, saw the involvement of various community partners and dignitaries, including NBA champion A.C. Green. The nonprofit HPP Cares, which operates The Rebuild Center at the Eaton Fire Collaboratory, is spearheading the effort, ensuring that the Alvarados will not incur any costs for the reconstruction. Businesses like Diggin' Cali are donating grading and soil testing services, while Builders First Source is providing fire-hardened building materials, windows, and doors. The Alvarados, who did not have fire insurance, lost their home, which they had purchased in 1973, in the January 7, 2025, fire.
