California's New Solar Project Aims to Decarbonize State Water Operations by 2035
California has launched the Pastoria Solar Project, a 105-megawatt solar plant, to power the Edmonston Pumping Plant, a key component of the state's water delivery system. This project, developed by Calpine and part of Constellation Energy Corp., is the largest renewable energy initiative contracted by the California Department of Water Resources. The solar plant, located near the Tehachapi Mountains, is part of a broader effort to decarbonize the state's water operations by 2035. The project includes a 20-year power purchase agreement for the solar plant and a 15-year agreement for an 80-megawatt battery storage bank. This initiative is crucial as California faces rising energy demands and aims to meet its clean energy goals amidst federal rollbacks on climate regulations.
