California Launches $3,500 EV Rebate Program to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption
California has introduced a new rebate program, 'MyFirstEV', offering $3,500 to first-time buyers or lessees of electric vehicles (EVs) priced under $50,000. This initiative, announced by Governor Gavin Newsom, aims to make EVs more accessible as federal tax credits have been phased out. The program is funded with $270 million, sourced equally from the state budget and participating automakers. The rebate is available at the point of sale, eliminating the need for consumers to wait for tax returns. The program is designed to encourage first-time EV purchases, thereby expanding the market for zero-emission vehicles.
