Senate Establishes Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence to Address Emerging Challenges
The U.S. Senate has established a Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI) through Senate Resolution 918. This committee is tasked with conducting investigations and studies into the development, deployment, use, and governance of AI, including its emerging capabilities and associated risks. The resolution defines 'artificial intelligence' and 'artificial intelligence system' in line with the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020. The Select Committee will comprise not more than 13 Senators, appointed by the President pro tempore of the Senate, with consideration given to their qualifications and expertise in AI.
