Healing Homes Farm Provides New Start for Formerly Incarcerated Women in Michigan
Healing Homes Farm, a new community in Michigan for women transitioning out of prison, has welcomed its first two residents, Quiana Lovett and Shavonne Davis. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the AFSC Michigan Criminal Justice Program and Second Chance Battalion. Quiana Lovett, who recently completed a 16-year prison sentence, shared her initial experiences and aspirations during an Open House at the farm. Her first three weeks of freedom have been filled with significant 'first times,' including meeting her grandchildren, visiting her deceased son's grave, and attending a Survivors Justice Act (SJA) conference. Lovett, a college graduate with degrees in business and general studies, expressed her desire to finance a car, own a home, travel, successfully complete parole, and continue her work in entrepreneurship and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence and college-in-prison programs.
