Smithsonian's 'Americans' Exhibit Tours Florida, Highlighting Native American Identity
The Smithsonian Museum on Main Street program, in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Indian and Florida Humanities, is presenting a traveling exhibition titled 'Americans.' This exhibition explores the integral role of American Indians in the history and identity of the United States. The exhibit will tour five Florida communities from August 2026 to June 2027, starting at the Amelia Island Museum of History. The exhibition aims to reach underserved and rural audiences, offering a new perspective on the relationship between American Indians and the broader American culture. It includes photographs, interactive displays, and videos that challenge visitors to reconsider familiar historical narratives and cultural symbols associated with Native Americans.
