U.S. Department of Homeland Security Expands Entity List with 43 Chinese Companies Over Forced Labor Concerns
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has added 43 Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List. This action increases the list by 30%, now totaling 187 entities. The companies are involved in various sectors such as aluminum, apparel, copper, cotton, tomatoes, pharmaceuticals, metals, and lithium production. The U.S. government alleges these companies are either sourcing materials from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region or collaborating with the Xinjiang government to recruit, transport, or receive Uyghurs and other persecuted groups. The UFLPA, passed by Congress in 2021, aims to prevent goods produced under alleged forced labor conditions from entering the U.S. market. Notable companies added include Hunan Aihua Group, a major capacitor manufacturer, and Chacha Food Co, known for exporting snack foods.
