Covington Launches Affordable Housing Initiative with Modular Homes
Covington, Kentucky, has introduced a new affordable housing program utilizing modular homes. The initiative aims to increase homeownership opportunities by placing factory-built houses on city-owned vacant lots. The first modular homes are being installed on Pleasant Street, with each three-bedroom unit expected to sell for around $250,000. The homes are constructed off-site in Vandalia, Ohio, by Unibilt and then transported to their final locations. This approach is designed to be cost-effective and efficient, with construction times significantly shorter than traditional methods. City officials, including Mayor Ron Washington, emphasize the program's potential to revitalize neighborhoods and reduce the maintenance costs associated with abandoned properties.
