Strong Winds and Drought Conditions Persist in Southwestern Kansas
The National Weather Service has forecasted strong winds in southwestern Kansas, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph this afternoon. Relative humidity levels are expected to drop to a low 7%, indicating very dry conditions. The Oklahoma and Texas panhandles are also experiencing dry weather, with little to no rain expected this week. Temperatures in these areas are predicted to approach 90°F (32°C) by midweek before cooling down. The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that 53% of Kansas is currently experiencing drought conditions, a significant increase from three months ago. Similarly, almost 99% of Oklahoma is under drought, marking a rise from 71% over the same period.
