CRISPR Technology Enhances Prostate Cancer Immunotherapy by Increasing Tumor Vulnerability
Researchers have developed an experimental RNA targeting technology using CRISPR that may significantly improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy in treating prostate cancer. Prostate tumors are typically 'immune cold,' meaning they attract few T cells, which are crucial for the success of immunotherapy. The new CRISPR-based tool modifies RNA within prostate cancer cells, making the tumors more visible to immune cells. This advancement was detailed in a study published in Nature Biomedical Engineering, where the technology was shown to enhance the response of prostate tumors to immune checkpoint therapy in mice. The study, led by scientists from Duke University School of Medicine, demonstrated that the CRISPR tool could restore the MHC-1 complex, a molecular signal that helps T cells recognize tumor cells, thereby increasing the effectiveness of immunotherapy.
