Isaias Could Soak the South and Trigger Inland Flooding
Hurricane Isaias could bring dangerous weather well beyond the Gulf Coast, with heavy rain, flooding, strong wind gusts and possible tornadoes threatening parts of the South. The storm could make landfall Friday between Gulfport, Mississippi, and parts of Florida, while rainfall spreads inland through the weekend. Montgomery, Alabama, and Asheville, North Carolina, could receive 5 to 8 inches of rain, while Nashville and Jackson, Mississippi, may see 2 to 3 inches. Atlanta and Montgomery face an elevated flood threat, and coastal flooding is possible near Charleston, South Carolina. Isaias’ remnants could bring additional rain to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Washington, Philadelphia and New York City from Saturday through Monday.
