Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir's recent visit to Tehran has underscored the military's dominant role in Pakistan's power structure. During the visit, Munir was the first to de-board the plane and was warmly received by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was notably in the background. This reception, along with the presence of Munir's aide-de-camp holding a bulletproof shield, typically reserved for heads of state, highlights the military's significant influence over Pakistan's political and diplomatic affairs. The visit aimed to maintain backchannel communications between Washington and Tehran, following unsuccessful US-Iran talks in Islamabad. The Pakistani delegation's efforts are focused on preventing further escalation in the Middle East.
