Assam Initiates Digital Census 2027 with Self-Enumeration Phase Amid Flood Delays
Assam is set to launch its Digital Census 2027, beginning with a self-enumeration phase on August 2. This initiative, led by the Directorate of Census Operations, marks a significant shift towards a digital approach in population counting. The self-enumeration phase will allow residents to submit their demographic information online or via a smartphone app until August 16. However, the process will be delayed in the districts of Charaideo and Sivasagar due to ongoing flood conditions. The census will proceed in two phases, with the second phase, the Housing Census, scheduled from August 17 to September 15. This phase will involve trained enumerators visiting households to gather detailed information on housing and amenities. The census aims to cover 35 districts, 166 sub-districts, and 26,236 villages across Assam. Authorities have assured that all collected data will be securely stored and treated with confidentiality.
