European Heatwave and Wildfires Intensify, Affecting France and Spain
Europe is currently experiencing significant heatwaves and wildfires, particularly impacting France and Spain. In France, 16 departments are under an orange heatwave alert, with temperatures soaring up to 41°C (106°F). The Gironde region, in particular, is facing challenges with wildfires, prompting special measures to protect sites linked to the defense and aerospace industries. In Spain, the fourth heatwave of the summer has begun, with temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) and several regions on orange alert. The European Union Civil Protection Mechanism is actively providing support through aircraft, helicopters, and ground crews to manage the situation. The heatwaves and wildfires are exacerbated by human-driven climate change, creating tinderbox conditions across Europe.
