NASA to Livestream August 2026 Solar Eclipse as California Misses Out
On August 12, 2026, a rare total solar eclipse will be visible from Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, parts of the Atlantic Ocean, Spain, and a sliver of Portugal. In the United States, only parts of the Northeast, Midwest, and Alaska will experience a partial eclipse. Californians, however, will not be able to view the eclipse directly as the state lies outside the moon's shadow. Instead, NASA will provide a livestream of the event, starting at 10:15 a.m. PDT, featuring telescope views, footage from a high-altitude research aircraft, and expert commentary. The totality of the eclipse is expected to begin in Iceland at 10:45 a.m. PDT. The next partial solar eclipse visible from California will occur on January 14, 2029, while a total eclipse will not be visible until August 12, 2045.
