Mildred Knox Bates, Author and Missionary, Passes Away at 95
Mildred Knox Bates, a notable author, missionary, and community figure, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, in Pensacola, Florida, at the age of 95. Born on May 27, 1928, in Marietta, Georgia, Mildred had a diverse and impactful life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Estelle Knox, and her husband, Jim Bates. Mildred was a graduate of Tift College in Forsythe, Georgia, where she served as class president and earned a B.A. in Social Science. Her career included working for the Marietta Journal and the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Richmond, Virginia, where she met her husband. She was also an artist and a missionary to Mexico.
