Sealaska Board of Directors Approves Cultural and Community Initiatives in July Meeting
The Sealaska Board of Directors recently held a meeting where they approved several initiatives aimed at cultural preservation and community support. Key actions included the approval of two cultural cedar log donations and a $50,000 contribution to the Southeast Village Fisheries Collective, which supports rural and Native fishermen. The board also approved a $25,000 contribution to the Ketchikan Indian Community for suicide prevention and community healing efforts. Additionally, the board received updates on shareholder engagement, business performance, and legislative priorities, including opposition to Ballot Measure 2, which would alter Alaska's election system. The board emphasized the importance of youth engagement and leadership development, with 35 interns and 5 international fellows participating in Sealaska-supported programs.
