Oregon Residents Linked to Nationwide Lettuce Recall Due to Parasitic Outbreak
Two residents of Oregon have tested positive for an intestinal parasite, cyclospora, which is believed to be connected to a nationwide outbreak. This outbreak has led to a recall of Taylor Farms’ pre-shredded iceberg lettuce. Although the products linked to the recall have not been sold in Oregon, the individuals had recently traveled to states involved in the recall. Cyclospora infects the small intestine and can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, loss of appetite, and stomach cramps. The Oregon Health Authority has noted that while cyclosporiasis is reported annually in the state, it is not typically linked to national outbreaks, and most cases involve recent international travel. The outbreak is primarily concentrated in states like Michigan, New York, Illinois, and Texas, with concerns about potential spread to the West Coast.
