PortMiami Director Removed Amid Fisher Island Fuel Terminal Dispute
PortMiami is embroiled in a contentious land dispute as Miami-Dade County seeks to acquire a fuel depot on Fisher Island through eminent domain. The county's mayor has removed key officials, including Port Director Hydi Webb, amid failed negotiations with the property's developer. The fuel depot, critical for supplying PortMiami's ships, is located on a 10-acre parcel that a developer plans to convert into luxury condominiums. The county had offered $200 million upfront and another $200 million over 20 years, but the developer demanded $400 million. The dispute has led to legal action from Fisher Island residents, citing environmental concerns and lack of transparency.
