Medical College of Wisconsin Hosts MedMoth Storytelling Events to Foster Communication Skills
The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) hosts 'MedMoth' events, a student-run initiative that provides a platform for learners, faculty, and staff to share five-minute personal stories. These events, held each semester, are inspired by The Moth, a national storytelling organization, though MCW MedMoth has no formal ties to it. Participants are encouraged to share family-friendly stories that are sensitive to patient information, covering a wide range of topics from personal experiences like moped crashes and camping trips to reflections on identity and family challenges. The program emphasizes the development of clear communication skills and offers workshops, led by Dr. Campbell and in collaboration with Ex Fabula, a Milwaukee-based storytelling organization, to help speakers refine their narratives.
