Congressman Mike Kelly Advocates for U.S. Critical Mineral Independence to Counter China
During a full Ways & Means Committee hearing, U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), who chairs the Ways & Means Subcommittee on Tax, underscored the critical need for the United States to establish strategic partnerships and boost domestic mining capabilities. The objective is to secure vital minerals and natural resources, thereby reducing reliance on China. Rep. Kelly emphasized that the U.S. is currently in a race to secure these essential minerals, which are crucial for economic competitiveness both now and in the future. He stated that it is imperative to prevent China from monopolizing critical minerals, asserting that strong alliances with allies will contribute to a stronger and safer America. The current U.S. heavy reliance on foreign sources for most critical minerals, coupled with ongoing global conflicts, illicit trade, and unreliable supplies, amplifies the urgency of this initiative.
