Suspected Drunk Driver to Face Charges After Fatal NYC Sidewalk Crash
Elvin Suarez, a 61-year-old driver, is set to face criminal charges following a fatal crash on a sidewalk in Morningside Heights, Manhattan. The incident occurred on Friday evening when Suarez lost control of his black Mercedes-Benz, resulting in the deaths of two men, including a father of triplets, and critically injuring three others. The crash, which took place near Amsterdam Avenue and West 109th Street, involved a chain reaction that began when Suarez sideswiped another car. The vehicle then struck a group of pedestrians sitting outside a barber shop. Suarez has been charged with two counts of manslaughter, three counts of vehicular manslaughter, two counts of vehicular assault, and one count of driving while intoxicated (DWI). Police sources confirmed that Suarez was taken to a hospital where his blood was tested for alcohol.
