UN Report Highlights Global Hunger Decline but Warns of Rising Food Insecurity in Africa
A recent United Nations report has revealed that while global hunger has decreased for the third consecutive year, Africa has become the epicenter of food insecurity. The report, authored by five UN agencies including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), indicates that 2.69 billion people worldwide cannot afford a healthy diet. This issue is particularly acute in Africa, where 66.6% of the population was unable to afford a healthy diet in 2025, surpassing Asia in the number of undernourished people. The report emphasizes the need for urgent action to make healthy diets more affordable, as the cost of a healthy diet is significantly higher than the extreme poverty line. The report also highlights the impact of geopolitical tensions and energy market disruptions, which could exacerbate food insecurity.
