The Oregon Department of Emergency Management is organizing a series of free webinars aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness in rural communities. The initiative, titled 'Rural Communities Prepared for Disasters,' consists of two sessions designed to equip participants with essential tools and resources for disaster response and recovery. The first session, scheduled for April 22, will focus on communication systems during disasters, evacuation protocols, and backup power options. The second session, set for May 13, will address funding for disaster recovery, the recovery process, and the role of long-term recovery groups. Kayla Thompson, the community preparedness coordinator, emphasized the importance of pre-disaster information and connections to strengthen community resilience.
