National Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Upstate New York Communities
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of upstate New York, including southwestern Wayne, northwestern Livingston, eastern Genesee, southern Monroe, and north-central Ontario counties. The warning, effective until 9:30 a.m., was announced at 8:44 a.m. on Tuesday. A severe thunderstorm was identified near Le Roy, approximately 9 miles east of Batavia, moving eastward at a speed of 50 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail, which could potentially damage vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees. The affected areas include several communities such as Rochester, Irondequoit, Chili, East Rochester, Webster, Fairport, Brighton, Gates-North Gates, Henrietta, and Penfield. Additionally, the warning covers portions of Interstate 390 between exits 11 and 12 and Interstate 90 between exits 44 and 47. Residents in these areas are advised to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for safety.
