French Soldier Killed in Lebanon Attack, Macron Blames Hezbollah
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a French soldier was killed and three others were injured in an attack on United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. The attack, which occurred on Saturday morning, is believed to have been carried out by Hezbollah, according to Macron. The soldier killed was identified as Staff Sgt. Florian Montorio of the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment. The incident took place during a mission to open a route to a UNIFIL post that had been isolated due to ongoing fighting in the area. French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin stated that the soldier was ambushed by an armed group and was fatally shot at close range. Macron has called on Lebanese authorities to arrest those responsible and ensure the safety of UNIFIL soldiers.
