Super Typhoon Sinlaku Strikes Northern Mariana Islands and Guam
Super Typhoon Sinlaku has unleashed powerful winds and heavy rains on the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam, causing significant damage. The storm, which is equivalent to a Category 4 or 5 hurricane, brought winds of up to 150 mph (240 kph) when it made landfall. The typhoon has flipped cars, toppled utility poles, and ripped away tin roofs, leaving many roads impassable and causing power outages across Saipan, the largest of the Mariana Islands. The American Red Cross is providing shelter to over 1,000 residents affected by the storm. The typhoon also impacted Guam, a U.S. territory with several military installations, with tropical force winds and flash flooding. According to the National Weather Service, Sinlaku is the strongest tropical cyclone on Earth this year.
