Pittsburgh Experiences Unprecedented Increase in Tornado Activity
The Pittsburgh area has experienced a significant increase in tornado activity, with 21 confirmed tornadoes this year, compared to the usual average of 10. Meteorologists attribute this spike to climate change, which has resulted in warmer and more humid conditions, creating ideal conditions for tornado formation. Additionally, advancements in technology, such as improved radar and the use of drones, have made it easier to confirm tornado occurrences. Experts note that Tornado Alley is shifting eastward, affecting regions like Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. This year marks one of the top three years for tornado activity in the region since 1950.
