Justice Department Investigates Reid Hoffman's Donations in E Jean Carroll's Lawsuit Against President Trump
The U.S. Justice Department has initiated a criminal investigation into donations made by Democratic billionaire Reid Hoffman in support of E Jean Carroll's lawsuits against President Trump. Carroll, a magazine columnist, accused Trump of sexual abuse in a Manhattan department store, leading to a $5 million jury award in 2023 and an additional $83 million in a defamation lawsuit. Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn, has been a vocal supporter of Carroll, and his donations are now under scrutiny. The investigation is reportedly examining whether Carroll provided false information about the funding of her lawsuits, which she claimed were handled on a contingency basis. Hoffman's non-profit, American Future Republic, is also being investigated for payments to the litigation firm representing Carroll. Hoffman has publicly criticized the investigation, suggesting it aims to silence critics of President Trump.
