This Season’s Snow Map: Winter Wonderland Areas And Dry Spots
Early December has brought contrasting snow conditions across the U.S. While the Rockies and much of the West remain below average, parts of the Midwest and Northeast are seeing record snowfall. Chicago and South Bend have received more than a foot above normal, and New England ski resorts report record depths. Snow covers the Plains, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and New England above historical averages, while the I-95 corridor, including Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia, remains largely snow-free, except for Richmond, Virginia. The unusual cold and warm Great Lakes fueled lake-effect snow, driving these extremes.
