U.S. Representative Andre Carson Calls for Federal Investigation into Miami Correctional Facility Health Concerns
U.S. Representative Andre Carson, a Democrat from Indianapolis, has called for a federal investigation into the health care conditions at the Miami Correctional Facility in Indiana. This facility houses both state inmates and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees. Concerns have been raised about inadequate medical services and staffing shortages, which have led to significant delays in care. Reports indicate that over a 22-day period, 760 doses of medication were not administered due to various reasons, including detainees refusing to come to the pill line or being in court. Additionally, 44 doses were missed because the medication was unavailable. The facility's health care provider, Centurion Health, has been criticized for being unprepared for the influx of ICE detainees. The state of Indiana has extended its contract with Centurion, but is also exploring other options for providing health care services.
