Maryland 10-Year-Old's Cake Sells for $15,000 at Charity Auction
Ten-year-old Herbie Martin IV from Maryland achieved a remarkable feat by selling his lemon blueberry buttercream cake for $15,000 at the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair's charity cake auction. Martin, who participated through the Cheetah's 4-H Club, stayed up until 2 a.m. perfecting his cake, which was decorated with white icing and piped yellow and purple designs. Despite an initial failed attempt due to clumpy batter, Martin's persistence paid off as his cake won both champion and grand champion honors. The auction, which raised over $100,000, supports future Carroll County 4-H and FFA fairs and related programs. The cake was purchased by the Good Ole Carroll County Farm & Business Syndicate, a group of local business owners.
