President Trump's 15-Foot Gold Statue at Florida Golf Course Sparks Comparisons to North Korean Monuments
A 15-foot gold statue of President Trump has been installed at the Trump National Doral Miami golf course, drawing comparisons to statues of North Korea's former leaders. The statue, nicknamed 'Don Colossus,' was erected just before the PGA Tour's Cadillac Championship. Social media users have noted its resemblance to monuments of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, North Korea's former Supreme Leaders. The statue, made of bronze and coated in gold leaf, was created by Ohio-based artist Alan Cottrill. It was commissioned by the cryptocurrency group $PATRIOT, which had a payment dispute with Cottrill over the statue's use in promoting crypto tokens. The statue depicts President Trump raising his fist, a pose reminiscent of a moment during an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in 2024. Despite its prominent placement, some golfers and PGA Tour staff have been hesitant to pose with the statue.
