Indian American Philanthropists Increase Contributions, Impacting U.S. Institutions
Indian American philanthropists have significantly increased their charitable contributions, with annual giving rising to between $4 and $5 billion in 2024, according to a 2025 Dalberg study commissioned by Indiaspora. This growth is reflected in initiatives like the India Philanthropy Alliance’s India Giving Day campaign, which saw nearly 2,700 donors raise close to $9 million in 2025. Prominent donors such as Vinod and Neeru Khosla, Romesh Wadhwani, and Bharat Desai and Neerja Sethi have been instrumental in this philanthropic surge. Their contributions support a range of causes, including education, entrepreneurship, and healthcare, both in the U.S. and India. The community's philanthropic efforts are facilitated through family foundations, donor-advised funds, and collaborative platforms, with a notable focus on leveraging expertise in law, medicine, and engineering for pro bono services.
