Kelowna Students Witness Firsthand the Dangers of Impaired Driving Through Crash Demonstration
Students at Okanagan Mission Secondary in Kelowna were given a firsthand demonstration of the dangers associated with impaired driving. The event, held on April 9, involved the Kelowna Fire Department, RCMP, and BC Ambulance Service, who collaborated to simulate the aftermath of a head-on vehicle collision. The demonstration aimed to educate Grade 12 students, who are on the verge of obtaining full driving privileges, about the severe consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During the event, students acted as victims in a staged crash scenario, highlighting the critical role of first responders in such emergencies. Fire services demonstrated how they extricate trapped passengers, while paramedics provided medical aid. The police explained their role in securing the scene and conducting investigations.
