Japan's Noetra Initiative Aims to Boost Physical AI Development with Major Industry Support
Japan has launched a significant initiative named Noetra to advance its physical AI capabilities, supported by substantial government funding and investments from major companies. Noetra, a cross-industry collaboration, is focused on developing homegrown AI models, particularly in the realm of physical AI and robotics. The initiative is backed by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization. Key players in this initiative include SoftBank, Sony Group, NEC, and Honda Motor. The project is led by Hironobu Tamba, who previously developed SoftBank's large language model. The initiative aims to leverage Japan's industrial data to enhance its competitive edge in AI, with plans to deploy 10 million AI-powered robots by 2040.
