Mount Dukono Eruption Claims Lives of Two Singaporeans, Evacuation Efforts Hindered
Two Singaporean nationals have been confirmed dead following the eruption of Mount Dukono on Indonesia's Halmahera island. The local rescue agency reported that the bodies were found around the crater rim, but evacuation efforts are being hampered by ongoing eruptions and adverse weather conditions. The eruption, which began on May 8, 2026, has resulted in continuous volcanic activity, with ash plumes reaching up to 10 kilometers high. Despite the challenging conditions, 17 people, including seven Singaporeans and 10 Indonesians, survived the incident. The surviving Singaporeans are scheduled to return home soon, according to Singapore's Foreign Ministry.
