FDA to Review Peptide Regulations Amid Safety Concerns
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is set to convene a panel of outside experts to discuss whether compounding pharmacies should be allowed to produce certain injectable peptides. These peptides, including TB-500, BPC-157, and MOTs-C, are popular in the wellness industry for their purported benefits in muscle growth, fat loss, and skin health. However, none of these compounds have undergone large-scale trials to establish their safety and efficacy, raising concerns among scientists and regulators. The FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee will review the evidence for these peptides over a two-day meeting. The discussion comes amid a growing demand for peptides, which has led to a gray market of unregulated suppliers.
