Minnesota Sues Texas Governor Greg Abbott Over Extradition of ICE Agent
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty have filed a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott to compel him to extradite Christian Castro, a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. Castro faces charges in Minnesota related to a January 14 shooting in Minneapolis, where he allegedly shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis. He was arrested in Texas on May 29, but Governor Abbott has not yet approved his extradition. Castro is charged with four counts of second-degree assault and a misdemeanor for false reporting, as video evidence contradicted his claim of self-defense. Attorney General Ellison emphasized the urgency of the lawsuit, noting that Texas law mandates Castro's release from custody after 90 days, which is approaching on August 26. Both Ellison and Moriarty expressed concerns that Castro, who has connections to Mexico, could be a flight risk if released.
