New Material Discovered from Hiroshima Atomic Bombing Fallout
Researchers have discovered a previously unknown metal alloy in glass particles formed from the fallout of the Hiroshima atomic bombing. The material, named 'hiroshimaite,' was found in tiny glass spheres collected from Hiroshima Bay. The alloy consists of iron, chromium, nickel, manganese, molybdenum, silicon, and aluminum, arranged in a unique crystalline structure. This discovery, published in Science Advances, provides new insights into the extreme conditions created by nuclear explosions and their ability to form novel materials. The findings highlight the potential for such environments to produce materials with unique properties.
