Kansas Education Department Pilots New Quarterly Testing System in Six Districts
The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is launching a pilot program for a new assessment system in six school districts, moving away from traditional year-end testing. This initiative, approved by the U.S. Department of Education under the Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority (IADA), aims to implement the Kansas Through-Year Curriculum-Directed Assessment. The districts involved include Kansas City, Olathe, Geary County, Dodge City, Great Bend, and Humboldt. The new system will provide quarterly assessments, offering timely feedback within 72 hours, which is intended to better guide instruction and meet student needs. The pilot will run during the 2026-2027 school year, with plans to expand as the system proves effective.
