Tropical Storm Dolly Approaches Leeward Islands and U.S. Coastline
Tropical Storm Dolly is currently tracking toward the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean and is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region as early as this weekend. Meteorologists have noted that the Atlantic hurricane season has been unusually quiet this year, with only four named storms so far. Dolly is not expected to reach hurricane status due to strong wind shear and land interaction, but it may still bring significant rainfall to Puerto Rico on Sunday and Monday. The storm could potentially redevelop as it moves toward the southeastern U.S. coast, with impacts possible in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and even as far north as New England later next week. Forecasters attribute the subdued hurricane activity to a powerful El Niño, which has created conditions unfavorable for storm intensification.
