Charlie Hatcher Defeats Trump-Backed Andy Ogles in Tennessee GOP Primary
In a closely watched primary, Charlie Hatcher defeated incumbent Andy Ogles in the Republican primary for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District. Despite receiving an endorsement from President Trump, Ogles was unable to overcome the well-funded campaign of Hatcher, who was supported by Governor Bill Lee. Hatcher, a former state agriculture commissioner, ran on a platform that included pro-gun and anti-abortion stances, aligning with many of Trump's policies. The Associated Press reported that with 81% of ballots counted, Hatcher secured 53.2% of the vote compared to Ogles's 46.8%. Ogles, a member of the Freedom Caucus, had been in office since 2022 and was known for his conservative positions.
