Israeli Soldiers Among Those Charged in Gaza Smuggling Operation
Israel's Ministry of Justice has charged a dozen individuals, including Israeli soldiers, with smuggling goods into Gaza. The indictment accuses the group of systematically smuggling items such as cigarettes, iPhones, and batteries, potentially aiding the militant group Hamas. The smuggling operation reportedly involved both active-duty and reserve soldiers, exploiting weak oversight at the border. The goods were allegedly brought into Gaza through special coordination, bypassing the official crossing system. The charges include assisting the enemy during wartime, financing terror activity, fraud, and bribery. Notably, Bezalel Zini, brother of Shin Bet chief David Zini, was implicated in the smuggling of cigarettes, although he was not formally charged.
