Michael Rogers Pleads Guilty to Hacking Stark County Court Records System
Michael Rogers, a 21-year-old from Canton, has pleaded guilty to charges of computer fraud and destruction of records after hacking into the Stark County Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) and a Connecticut-based corporation. Rogers accessed personal information from the court system and sensitive employee data from the corporation using malware. He destroyed evidence, including a phone, computer, and hard drive, to obstruct the investigation. The federal charges were filed as an information, bypassing the grand jury process. Rogers faces a potential prison sentence of 21 to 27 months, less than the maximum due to mitigating factors such as his acceptance of responsibility.
