Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Acquired by Nonprofit, Ensuring Continued Operation
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a longstanding newspaper in Western Pennsylvania, will continue operations beyond its planned closure date of May 3, following its acquisition by the Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism. This Maryland-based nonprofit, which also owns the Baltimore Banner, has purchased the paper from Block Communications, its owner for the past century. The acquisition is set to take effect on May 4, although the terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The Venetoulis Institute plans to maintain the Post-Gazette's Thursday and Sunday print schedule and will integrate some operations, such as technology, with its existing teams. The acquisition aims to revitalize local journalism in the region, with a focus on community engagement and investment in journalism.
