EU Warns Albania Over Kushner-Linked Project Amid Environmental Concerns
The European Commission has issued a warning to Albania regarding a controversial development project linked to Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law. The project, a luxury resort on Albania's southern coast, has sparked national protests due to its potential threat to a protected wildlife area. The protests, dubbed the 'Flamingo Revolution,' have been ongoing for seven days, with demonstrators demanding the project's cancellation. The European Commission has expressed concerns that the project could violate EU environmental rules, specifically those related to the Birds and Habitats Directives, which are crucial for Albania's EU accession process. Albania's environment minister has informed the Commission that construction has been suspended and an environmental impact assessment will be conducted. However, the project has not yet received a construction permit, and no final proposal has been submitted.
