Dolomite Products Fined for Quarry Blast Incident in Penfield
Dolomite Products, a mining company, has been fined $135,000 by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) following a blasting incident at its Penfield quarry. The blast, which occurred in September, sent debris, including large rocks, into a nearby park, damaging a playground and pickleball courts. Although no injuries were reported, the incident prompted the DEC to halt all blasting operations at Dolomite's eight quarries until compliance is achieved. The company has paid $105,000 of the fine, with the remaining $30,000 suspended pending adherence to a compliance schedule.
